Did you say transition ?
Did you say transition? The Petit Larousse defines transition as "the process of changing from one state to another." For the île-de-Sein, energy transition means changing from a total dependence to a total independence from fossil fuel - an issue on which everyone is in agreement. However, arguments such as "it's impossible," "this is like going back to using candles," "it's too expensive," etc.... Are we so sure? A short trip to far away islands would show that it is possible: numerous technologies exist, others are being developed and those who benefit from these technologies are far from using candles. But is it expensive? With a current average production cost nearing 40 cent/kWh, our economic analysis shows that all renewable energy production means nowadays are cheaper, and give us the chance to finance a large number of energy conservation projects (insulation, etc...) without increasing the costs. Our definition of transition is to go from spending large sums and polluting a lot to paying little and polluting very little. Sein's transition as we lead it is a global transition! The island has waited for more than 15 years, and today, we say, "let's go!" Let's implement this transition! By Patrick Saultier, CEO of IDSE.
